About
Hi, I'm Waylon, the creator of CustomAtlas. I built this tool for three reasons: I love geography, I love making things that are unique, and last but not least, I want to eventually make money from something I actually care about. This is an about page written in the format of a FAQ, even though no one has asked any questions yet.
What can I currently do with CustomAtlas?
With CustomAtlas, you can customize and export outline maps from a library of 50 maps. Outline maps are very simple. The customization options are colors, borders, and water features. Maps can be exported into SVG, PNG, and PDF files.
What makes CustomAtlas different?
CustomAtlas stands out because it takes a simple approach to the map editor. It is meant to be easy to use, not overwhelming, and have many maps available. It is constantly evolving, but the core philosophy is unique, a massive library of consistent maps with different style options for different use cases. It is not a general purpose map editor, it's goal is to have specialized polished experiences that handle edge cases.

Data and licensing
Base maps come from Natural Earth, a public domain dataset widely used for small-scale maps. The files are processed so they load quickly and can be styled in the customizer.
When you export, the server rebuilds the requested SVG, PNG, or PDF from your selected settings so the downloaded file matches the map you configured.
