With CustomAtlas, you can customize and export maps from a library that currently has 8,365 maps. Most of the maps are outline maps, and there are also numbered map quizzes. You can change colors, borders, subdivisions, lakes, rivers, and other features when a map has them. You can download SVG, PNG, and PDF files. Quiz maps also have controls for worksheet text, layout, numbering, and answer keys. Accounts can save maps, autosave changes, keep restore points, share maps, and show export history.

CustomAtlas is meant to be simple to use while still having a lot of maps available. It is still changing, but the main idea is to have a large library of maps made in a consistent way, with options for different uses. A lot of this consistency comes from backend automation. Creating around 1,000 map entries by hand would be a bad way to spend my time and would probably create more mistakes.

Browsing, editing, previewing, and downloading maps are free. Create an account when you want to save maps, continue on another device, or share with collaborators.

Base maps use Natural Earth public domain map data. I turn that data into the map files used by CustomAtlas. Numbered quizzes also use map data and answer keys prepared for them.

When you export, the server rebuilds the map from the settings you selected. It loads the base SVG from Supabase Storage and uses the same SVG-based process for SVG, PNG, and PDF exports. This is supposed to make the files match.
